       Dear Parents,

I am writing to remind you that next week is half-term and the children will return to school on Monday 2nd November.

Thank you so much to everyone who has handed in sponsor money after the excellent walks recently. So far we have raised over £2400 from the events.

If you do still have any money to come in, we shall be happy to accept any further donations before we present the money to the MacMillan Cancer Fund next half-term.

I would also like to say a big well done to the children of green class who took part in the multi skills festival this week. They were really good.

Can I please give advance notice that there will be no football club on the 2nd November for Year 5 and 6 children.  Many apologies.

I would also like to remind you that the Kidzone holiday club will be operating in the school mobile next week. If you need any details about this please visit our school website on www.peckover.ik.org.

Have a great week!

Yours sincerely

Dear Parents,

I am writing to welcome you all back to Peckover School after the Summer Holidays. I would also like to welcome children and parents who are starting Peckover School for the first time this term.

ICT Mark:

Towards the end of last term, we had some really good news. The school has received confirmation that it has been awarded the ICT mark.  This is good news for the whole school and it reflects the incredible hard work that Mrs Fletcher and Mrs Lenton, in particular, have put into the development of ICT across the school.

Safer Routes to School:

We have also discovered that we have been successful with our Safer Routes to school application at school and this should lead to improved safety measures on

Leverington Rd.

New improvements at school:

During the Summer, we have had a number of building improvements undertaken at school.

We have had new playground markings put onto the KS1 and KS2 playgrounds and new game themed boards erected for children to play on.

  • The school hall floor has been resealed.
  • The Adventure playground on the KS2 playground has been removed.
  • We have had new security measures introduced in the school office and in the ICT suite.
  • We have introduced over £3000 worth of new reading books into the KS1 library.
  • We have also had new fencing installed at the back of the school to create safer outdoor working areas for children.

Dates for the term:

During the next week I shall be sending the new homework timetables home for the Autumn Term and information about clubs at school this term.

Until then, I have got some important dates for the diary for you:

7th September: New Foundation Stage children will start at Peckover School .

8th September: There will be a meeting for Y3 parents and children at 3.30 p.m. in the Robins class room.

14th September: There will be a meeting for Y2 parents and children at 3.30 p.m. in Yellow class

18th September: Members of the Swans class will be going to Wisbech Castle to take part in an archaeological dig.

22nd September: There will be a Y6 meeting for Y6 parents and children at 6.00 p.m.

25th September: Mrs Norman will be attending the Gold Artsmark presentation.

1st October: There will be a meeting for Parents of Foundation Stage children at 2.30 p.m. in the Group Room.

7th October: The School Bookfair will arrive at Peckover School for the week.

9th October: This year in place of the usual Harvest Sale, we plan to do a sponsored activity instead to raise money for the MacMillan Cancer Fund. More details about this event will follow shortly.

19th October: Assessment week at school.

2nd November: The children will have the opportunity to watch a performance of Peter Pan.

6th November: Individual photographs will take place at school in the morning.

10th and 11th November: Some of the Y4 children will be attending a residential visit at Burwell House.

16th and 19th November: Parents Evenings

18th November: Some of the children in KS2 will be attending a visit to London to see the Lion King.

Christmas Performance Dates:

Foundation Stage: 14th December p.m.

KS1: 15th December p.m., 16th December a.m.

KS2: 16th December p.m., 17th December a.m.

We hope by giving you these dates well in advance, that it might help working parents arrange time off to come and see their children perform in the Christmas performances.

Disappointing news:

Unfortunately the School Crossing Patrol Service will not be replacing Mrs Spriggs on the crossing outside school. I have e-mailed the service to express my disappointment at this decision and I am waiting for a response.

Swimming Support:

If you normally help with swimming at school, we are having a meeting on 9th September with Celia from the swimming pool so that she can go through the teaching programme with us. Helpers are welcome to join our teaching and support staff at this meeting. It will take place at 3.30 p.m. in the group room at school.

CRB reminder:

If you help in school and have a CRB police check, you may not be aware that if you do not come into school for 3 months to help, your CRB expires. This is most likely to happen after the Summer holidays. If you have any doubts about whether you need to pop in to help for part of a day to ensure your CRB remains current, please contact the school office.

If you would like to become a parent helper in school please pop into the school office and let Mrs Patterson or Mrs Howe know.

Clubs:

During the next week or so we shall be letting you know what clubs we shall be offering to children this term.

SNACK TIME:

Children are able to bring in a snack for morning playtime each day. Please ensure that the snack provided is a healthy snack. There were 1 or 2 children who were attempting to eat most of their  packed lunch at morning break last year, so please ensure children know what their snack is and what is for their lunch. Thank you for your help with this matter.

Uniform:

I would like to remind you that we have uniform on sale at the office. Did you know that this year we are selling cardigans as well as sweatshirts showing the school logo ?

Homework Files:

Children in Y4 , 5 and 6 will be asked to hand in their homework files to their new class teacher as soon as possible and files will be updated with new information and replenished with plastic wallets etc. as necessary before being returned to children. Y3 will shortly be given a brand new homework file to use.

School Dinners:

I would just like to remind you that school dinners have gone up to £2 per day this term.

Kidzone:

I hope that the children who attended Kidzone during the Summer really enjoyed their days. We hope to offer a regular holiday club opportunity at Peckover School in the future.

Thank you

Yours sincerely

Dear Parents,

I am writing to inform you that on Friday 6th November Individual and family photos will be taken during the morning at school.

Small versions of the photos will then be sent home for parents to look at. These photos can make excellent Christmas presents for grandparents.

If you would like to have pre-school children included in a family photo please arrive at school between 8.00a.m. and 8.20 a.m. and go via the KS1 playground direct to the Group Room. Please appreciate that there might be a short wait for these family photos.

Thank you

Yours sincerely
